Peggy Northrop

CEO, Northrop Consulting

Peggy Northrop is an experienced media executive, entrepreneur and communications expert whose career has spanned local news, global and national magazines, digital startups, and communications and branding work. As editor-in-chief of More, Reader’s Digest and Sunset, she oversaw all digital and print operations and developed numerous brand extensions for each, including podcasts, books and revenue-generating events. Earlier in her career, she served in senior editorial positions at Vogue, Glamour and Real Simple, with a special focus on health journalism. In 2013 she co-founded a subscription e-book company to publish memoirs and fiction by and for women; Shebooks was acquired by SparkPoint in 2017. She also served on the board of her family-owned hyperlocal media company, the Observer-Reporter in Washington, PA, for many years.

As a consultant, Northrop has set up virtual news operations for nonprofit foundations, built new digital communities for brands, and helped tech companies connect to their audiences with engaging content, including as launch editor for Airbnb magazine. She has won numerous awards for her work, including three National Magazine Awards (two for General Excellence), the AdAge “A” list, and a Gracie Award for radio.

A frequent speaker on branding and using content to build community, she is a founding member of Consultants Collective, a diverse network of executives with C-level experience dedicated to helping businesses transform and innovate. An early investor in Portfolia funds, she lives in Mill Valley, CA.
