After more than 47 years in TV news, I wouldn’t trade jobs with anyone in the world. I’ve been a reporter, sportscaster, talk show host, and weather forecaster. My assignments have taken me to all 50 states and 5 continents. I’ve been honored to interview 6 presidents; prominent figures in sports, world affairs, and the arts; and ordinary people who have done extraordinary things. There were also unsettling moments reporting from virtually every natural calamity known to mankind. I can’t imagine a career path that would have been more enriching.
In 1971, my career began as a news reporter in Richmond, VA, just 25 miles from my childhood home. I worked in Baltimore briefly before moving onto WABC-TV in New York City. I spent 9 years there, while making frequent fill-in appearances on ABC’s Good Morning America. In 1986, I joined GMA full-time. Over the next 13 years, I traveled the world, wrote and published children’s books, and hosted a show on HGTV and Food Network.
ABC7/KGO-TV has been my home since 1999, and I continually test my forecasting skills for the Bay Area’s micro-climates.
