Chef Tara Wachtel grew up in West Sonoma County, and began her culinary education in 1996. She spent the next years traveling through Europe, and working everywhere from Alaska to Hawaii. She spent the next several years cooking for Sonoma County’s food boom of the early 2000’s, in such places as Syrah Bistro, Madrona Manor, and Kendall Jackson Wine Estates.

Branching out into all things food culture, Tara spent time working for Cowgirl Creamery, making their award winning cheeses out of Marin County. She lived and worked in Paris as a Private Chef, and New Zealand to take the Executive Chef role for a coastal resort in wine country. Returning home she accepted a Chef position at Zazu Restaurant + Farm. Tara developed and created the winning line-up of whole pig cookery with Chef Duskie Estes and John Stewart; winning two consecutive competitions – Cochon 555 Napa, and The Grand Cochon 555 at the Food + Wine Classic 2011 in Aspen Colorado.

Chef Tara currently oversees the culinary department for Rodney Strong Vineyards, Davis Bynum Winery Estates, and manages ‘The Terrace’ at Rodney Strong Vineyards, which focuses on wine tastings, food and wine pairings, and cheese and charcuterie.
