Unstoppable Women Take Over San Francisco: Nicole Kidman, Geena Rocero, Susan Wojcicki, Jackie Speier, Jennifer Siebel Newsom and Deb Haaland to Headline PBWC Conference

Over 7,000 business women will attend 30th annual event in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., April 8, 2019 — The Professional BusinessWomen of California (PBWC)’s 30th annual conference will be held at Moscone Center South in San Francisco on April 23, 2019.  This year’s conference theme, Unstoppable, is a celebration of resilience. In the face of challenges,  women choose courage. When things don’t go as planned, they find greater strength along another path. Conference programming will give attendees the tools, inspiration and network to grow their careers, ascend to the C-suite, strengthen corporate boards, lift their colleagues and give back to their communities.

Keynote speakers include: Nicole Kidman, Geena Rocero, Susan Wojcicki, Elaine Welteroth, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye, Akira Armstrong, Chetna Gala Sinha, Seema Hingorani, and Congresswomen Jackie Speier, Deb Haaland, Katie Hill and Lauren Underwood among many, many others. Over 7,000 women and men will attend PBWC’s 30th annual event in San Francisco.

Taking strength from the courage and persistence of women around the globe on issues such as climate change, violence in our communities, access to economic power and reproductive health, women are mobilizing to advance positive change in new ways. Attendees at this year’s sold-out event will learn to voice their views and advance their own agendas, even in conversations where they feel undervalued, excluded or without a voice.

Unstoppable program highlights include:

“Women Are Changing the World”

The midterm elections catapulted a record-breaking number of women into the political spotlight. Representative Deb Haaland from New Mexico’s 1st district is one of two Native American women holding seats in the U.S. House of Representatives for the first time ever. Representative Katie Hill from California’s 25th district is the first LGBTQ woman to represent her state. And Representative Lauren Underwood from Illinois’s 14th congressional district is the youngest black woman ever to serve in Congress. New voices bring fresh perspectives, courageous ambitions and bold challenges to the status quo. These amazing leaders will share their inspirational stories.

“Access to Pay and Opportunity Must Be Equal For All”

Transgender and gender non-conforming people face rampant discrimination, which in professional settings translates into unequal access to pay and opportunity. Filipina supermodel Geena Rocero uses her platform to seek justice and equality for all–speaking her truth at the UN, the World Economic Forum, the White House, and now PBWC’s Unstoppable Conference. She has devoted her life to un-rigging the game to ensure equal access to opportunity for women around the globe.

“Access to Capital is Critical”

Water, air, food, shelter and capital are five things no woman can live without. The world over, women do not stand on a level playing field with men when it comes to accessing capital. Chetna Gala Sinha will share her journey to create a cooperative microfinance bank in a drought-prone area of India, changing women’s lives by giving them better access to the capital they need to create business opportunities for themselves. PBWC is aligned with Chetna Gala Sinha in the belief that when you empower women, you change the world for good.

“Follow the Money: The Face of Institutional Money Management Needs to Change”

Not only are women missing from those coveted C-suite chairs, but we are also missing from the signature line on the checks that fund those seats because almost all the world’s institutional capital is managed by men. Change the game. Include women at the highest levels of capital management, and make a better world for all. Seema Hingorani, former Chief Investment Officer for NY City Retirement Systems and current Chief Investment Officer for SevenStep Capital, will talk about the stark under-representation of women in positions of power managing institutional capital, and about her efforts to change the game through the organization she founded, Girls Who Invest.

“This is the best day of my year, every year,” says Alexandra Roddy, president and board chair for PBWC. “Moscone Center South is electric with the energy, engagement and optimism of thousands of unstoppable women leaning into a better, more equal and inclusive future. This year’s conference program focuses our attention on trailblazing women who have invested their efforts in lifting others. Their stories are sure to inspire. Our day is designed to give attendees the tools, network and inspiration to grow their careers, ascend to the C-suite, strengthen corporate boards, build supportive relationships among colleagues and give back to their communities.”

The Expo Marketplace – which runs concurrently with the conference –  is the conference’s central activity hub featuring exhibits, food, entertainment, a bookstore, lounges, interactive areas and merchandise. It serves as the main gathering place for conference attendees to network, meet the speakers, and gain resources and educational tools.

At the VIP reception prior to the conference, leaders who have positively impacted diversity and inclusion initiatives at their Bay Area companies will be honored with the annual PBWC Industry Leader Award. Kaiser Permanente, Intel, Abbot, HP and Workday will be represented, among many others. Additionally, at the conference, the prestigious PBWC Scholarships will be awarded to nine college-bound Bay Area high school women.
